A decade of waste research, development and innovation in South Africa

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is hosting an online conference, The Waste Research, Development, and Innovation Roadmap Conference, from Tuesday, 3 to Thursday, 5 March 2026.

The ten-year showcase of waste research, development and innovation in South Africa will feature outcomes achieved from South Africa’s Waste Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) Roadmap, an initiative of the Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Prominent scholars and sector experts representing South Africa’s top academic institutions will present a variety of talks on value recovery from various agri and agro-processing organic waste streams, electronic waste, and waste plastic. The conference will also explore the social, economic, and environmental impacts of mismanaged waste in South Africa.

The multi-day, segmented webinar session format is structured into digestible sessions to attract participation and engagement from a wide-ranging industry, sector, media, research, and public audience, and to showcase the collaborative and multidisciplinary efforts of the DSTI-funded Waste RD&I Roadmap grant projects.

Join us each afternoon from 14:30 – 16:30 (South African Standard Time) for this virtual conference.
