Urban and regional dynamics

The CSIR’s research group for urban and regional dynamics focuses primarily on research, development and innovation that generates evidence in support of policy, investment and planning decisions to realise developmental goals in urban and rural settlements. This is informed by an understanding of socioeconomic development dynamics within and between cities, towns, villages and regions, which enables the modelling of growth and intervention scenarios, and their implications. The group is a multidisciplinary team of more than 20, consisting of geo-informatics specialists, mathematical modellers, data scientists, and town and regional planners.
